Quick-Start Rules are available for free from the D&D website, and this includes six pre-generated characters from the Player's Handbook (D&D 4e). These include traditional monsters such as goblins, orcs, kobolds, skeletons, dragons, zombies, and more. The Monster Manual (D&D 4e) provides plenty of monsters for every level of play.
